Showcause notice to 5 BTech AU students for ‘ragging’ freshers
ALLAHABAD : Allahabad University (AU) administration on Sunday served show-cause notices to five of its BTech students for allegedly ragging freshers at its Dr S Radhakrishnan Hostel on Saturday.
“The BTech second year students, all enrolled at JK Institute of Applied Physics and Technology of the university, are accused of misbehaving with the new comers in the name of introduction. They have been ordered to report at the Proctor’s office along with their parents between 3pm and 5pm on September 11,” said AU officials.
AU Proctor Ram Sevak Dubey said the matter came to light after parents of the victimised students reported the matter to varsity officials.
“In the notice served to them we have pointed out that these acts come within the purview of ragging which is illegal and banned. They have been asked to report at the proctor’s office along with their parents on Tuesday and submit their explanations both verbally and in writing as to why they should not be expelled for their actions,” he said.
Prof Dubey said he had also written to the hostel superintendent and the warden in this regard seeking their report on the incident.
The proctor said the university administration was determined to keep its campuses and hostels free of the ragging menace and would initiate strict action against anyone found indulging in such an illegal act.
