UP has immense potential in spiritual tourism sector: CM
LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday stated that UP provided immense opportunities in the spiritual and wellness tourism sector and the government was aiming for an annual investment of ₹ 5,000 crore in this sector.
He expressed these views at the inaugural session of the threeday 53rd annual convention of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Association of India (FHRAI).
The state government is a partner in the event ‘Spiritual and Wellness Tourism’ in which more than 1,000 hoteliers are participating.
Addressing the gathering, the CM said: “UP provides immense opportunities in spiritual and wellness tourism. The government is seeking investments of Rs 5,000 crore each year from the tourism industry.”
“The government has already received proposals worth Rs 2,500 crore from the hospitality sector. This has been possible only by collective efforts and awareness generated by such conventions,” added the CM.
He said the state government was also planning to open 100 wellness centres across UP.
Garish Oberoi, president, FHRAI, said: “UP has a lot of scope for alternative tourism, especially in spiritual tourism sector.” Also present on the occasion, chairman for the convention committee, Surinder Kumar Jaiswal, said: “Through this convention we will also promote Kumbh Mela 2019 starting in Allahabad from January.”
“We will highlight the ‘One District, One Product’ (ODOP) scheme of the UP government,” he added.
It may be pointed out that the ODOP is the flagship scheme of the Yogi government.
The convention will also see hospitality and supply chain exhibition featuring the latest products and technologies in hospitality and the supply chain network. The exhibition will also provide an opportunity to delegates to make themselves aware with state-of-the-art technologies, new services and products in the hospitality sector.
The convention serves as a platform to showcase the contemporary trends, cutting-edge technologies and international best practices in the rapidly growing hospitality Industry.
The convention will end on Saturday. Rashmi Verma, secretary, tourism, government of India will be the chief guest on the occasion. She will also give away FHRAI Hospitality Awards to noted achievers from the tourism and hospitality industry.
