HC stays lodging of FIR in IIT-Kanpur harassment case

ALLAHABAD : The Allahabad high court has stayed the order of National Commission for Schedule Caste (NCSC) to lodge an FIR against four teaching staff of IIT Kanpur for allegedly harassing an assistant professor belonging to lower caste.

The commission had acted upon enquiry report of IIT Kanpur which had conducted a probe into complaint of alleged harassment of professor S Sadrela by four senior faculties.

Earlier too, the court had stayed lodging of FIR in the case but had given the liberty to IIT administra­tion to conduct disciplina­ry proceeding­s against the professors in accordance with law, if they so desire.

After which administra­tion conducted an enquiry into the matter and filed its report on the basis of which the NCSC directed to lodge the FIR.

also directed it and the state government to file counter affidavit within four weeks.

An assistant professor in the department of the aerospace at the IIT-Kanpur Sadrela had accused four faculty of harassment and filed a case against them with the NCSC.

The bench comprising justice Pankaj Mithal and justice Mukhtar Ahmed passed the order while hearing a petition filed by Ishan Sharma.
