Alert sounded after LeT threat to blow up rly stations in UP

LUCKNOW : The UP Police sounded an alert on Wednesday regarding terror threats to blow up major railway stations in the state.

This follows a letter by the Pakistan based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, received at the office of Saharanpur railway station on September 25.

Director general of police OP Singh said the terror outfit threatened to target Saharanpur and other railway stations.

the matter and an alert sounded to remain more vigilant about suspicious activities in and around the railway stations across the state.

He said district police chiefs and other authoritie­s concerned had been alerted about the threat perception.

He said the officials concerned were asked to review the security deployment at the railway stations.

He said they were directed to ensure necessary arrangemen­ts.

Although the letter seemed to be the result of mischief, it could not be taken lightly, he said.

The DGP said the state intelligen­ce agencies, the UP Anti Terror Squad (ATS) and other specialise­d agencies were asked to trace the source of the threat letter. He said the agencies concerned were also taking help of the central agencies in the matter.

A similar threat letter was sent to several railway stations across the country in May this year.
