LUCKNOW : To fight the mosquito menace, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will now carry out fogging in narrow lanes and by-lanes across the city on bicycles.

Presiding over an executive committee meeting of the municipal corporation, mayor Sanyukta Bhatia on Saturday took serious note of complaints by corporators that fogging was being confined to posh and VVIP areas of the city only.

The mayor directed Lucknow Municipal Corporation officials to procure cycles according to requirement of each ward and equip them with fogging machines.

It was also decided that the civic body will construct multipurpose lawns on its vacant land across the city.

In the meeting, 19 vacant premises of the LMC were identified were these lawns could come up.

This step was also necessitated due to rampant encroachment on the LMC’s land.

ATAL SMRITI UPVAN AT RAHIMABAD

The LMC has decided to construct Atal Smriti Upvan at Rahimabad in Sarojini Nagar.

Here, LMC’s 6.375 hectare land is lying vacant. Bhatia said that the land has been identified for the project and will soon be approved for the project.

At the meeting, corporators raised the issue of Eco Green, the company engaged by the LMC to carry out door-to-door garbage collection.

They alleged that it has failed to discharge services of a certain

standard.

When corporators demanded action against the company, municipal commissioner Indramani Tripathi informed that the company has been given a deadline of October 15 to improve services.

Corporators also raised the issue of illegal hoardings across the city.

Replying to the query, mayor Sanyukta Bhatia informed that 483 billboards were listed in the LMC before she took over charge.

She also informed that directives have been issued to remove around 5,000 illegal billboards across the city.

ROADS IN NAME OF MARTYRS

Another important decision taken at the LMC’s executive committee meeting was to rename roads connecting houses of martyrs in the name of martyrs themselves. Several army men from the city have laid down their lives at the IndoPakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir fighting terrorists.
