CONSTABLE ‘SHOT DEAD’

-

KANPUR : A policeman succumbed to a bullet injury that he suffered in his chest in Kanpur Dehat district late on Monday night, police said. “It is not clear if it happened accidentally or was done intentionally. It is suspected that the constable may have committed suicide but there is no clarity on it yet,” said additional SP, Kanpur Dehat, Arun Srivastava.

“We are investigating and questioning Tiwari who accompanied him,” the ASP said. The incident took place when Naresh Chandra Yadav (now deceased), 56, had gone for patrolling with another constable Ved Prakash Tiwari.

Tiwari told police that he had gone to attend the call of nature near a petrol pump in Sarwan Khera in Gajner area when he heard a gunshot following which he rushed there. He said he found Yadav lying in a pool of blood there as the bullet had pierced through his chest. His service rifle was also found lying on ground, the police said.

Yadav was rushed to a private hospital in Rania from where he was referred to a private hospital in Kanpur where he succumbed. Yadav was posted at a police outpost under Gajner police station. Meanwhile, the deceased’s son Deepak on Tuesday filed a case of murder naming three people with Gajner police.

His family members had a heated argument with police officers over the suicide theory outside the private hospital in Kanpur where the constable was brought after the incident. He hailed from Barthana in Etawah district and had resumed his duty on Monday after a three-day leave.
