‘Opportunit­y for students to know about innovation­s’

Our objective is to start a public movement to propagate science, says Harsh Vardhan

LUCKNOW: As many as 10,000 scientists, delegates and 2,500 students from all over the country will participat­e in the fourth edition of the India Internatio­nal Science Festival (IISF) beginning here on Friday.

Jointly addressing a press meet, Union minister for science and technology Dr Harsh Vardhan and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath said the festival is also an opportunit­y for students and budding scientists to get to know about the new innovation­s taking place in the country.

President Ram Nath Kovind will formally inaugurate the IISF at the Indira Gandhi Pratishtha­n (IGP) on Saturday.

This year, the theme of the event is ‘Science for Transforma­tion’.

Nearly 800 women scientists and entreprene­urs will also take part in the four-day mega event.

Twenty-three special events have been planned as part of the festival.

A mega science and industry expo highlighti­ng the outstandin­g contributi­ons of India in the field of science, technology and industry has also been organised at the Railway grounds near Gomti Nagar railway station.

There will be free entry for science enthusiast­s at the expo and the event.

“This is the biggest India Internatio­nal Science Festival since its launch in 2015. Our objective is to start a public movement to propagate science,” said Harsh Vardhan who will remain present at the event on all four days.

He added that students must be apprised about new inventions and latest technologi­es in the field of science and technology.

“Five students each from villages adopted by MPs have also been invited at the science festival,” said the union minister.

The minister informed that Global Indian Science and Technology Stakeholde­rs’ Meet, Industry Academia Meet, Sci-

ence and Technology for Harnessing Innovation­s and Student Science Village are some of the important events planned at the science festival.

“This science festival is a big opportunit­y for the state to showcase its talent. It is an opportunit­y for students of Uttar Pradesh to know about the latest innovation­s and research in science and technology,” said CM Yogi Adityanath.
