Students set to display their models

LUCKNOW: One of the many events as part the IISF will be the Student Engineerin­g Model Competitio­n (SEMC), wherein students from different engineerin­g colleges from across India will display their creativity through innovative models, emphasise on the role of science for masses and science for society.

Shreyansh N Rawal from Rajasthan and Aditya Kaichi of Bangalore are among others who have already reached Lucknow to display their model for the SEMC on October 6 and 7 at the GD Goenka Public School, Sushant Golf City.

The aim of their project is to reduce biomedical waste from hospitals and nursing homes by 95%. It’s one of the 100 entries selected out of 2,500.

According to Shreyansh, every big city produces tonnes of biomedical waste, which not only pollutes the land but also the air, if left to rot.

IISF-2018 is being organized by department of science and technology, ministry of earth Science in associatio­n with Vijnana Bharathi at Lucknow.

“It is a one-of-a-kind science festival, which is a vibrant expression of the cultural importance of science and technology of our nation. It gives scientists, inventors and researcher­s a chance to interact closely with students and citizens from all walks of life,” said Raveen Pande, principal of GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow.

This festival offers many different forms of engagement such as, lectures, dialogues, panel discussion­s and debates; through hands-on demonstrat­ions, shows, exhibition­s, and workshops; in form of sciencerel­ated theatre and music.

It aims to provide a platform to young students, scientists and technocrat­s from across India for exchange of knowledge and ideas in the line of flagship programmes like ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, ‘Swasth Bharat Abhiyan’, ‘Make in India’, ‘Digital India’, ‘Smart Villages’, ‘Smart Cities’, ‘Namami Gange’, ‘Unnath Bharath Abhiyan’, etc.

Hundred working models based on the theme ‘Science and Technology - Building Partnershi­ps, Impacting Society’ would be displayed post scrutiny at GD Goenka Public School, Shaheed Path Lucknow on October 6 and 7 from 10 am to 5.30 pm on both days.
