Blending career goals with social work

LUCKNOW: Medal winners at the LU convocatio­n said they wanted to blend career developmen­t goals with social work to get satisfacti­on in profession­al life.

Sachin Singh, recipient of the Chancellor’s Silver medal (awarded to the best student in all faculties of post graduation courses), was chosen for his social work. “I will continue to help others in whatever way I can,” he said.

A farmer’s son, Sachin wants to become a teacher. “There is no point in getting an education unless one also works for others’ good. LU recognised my contributi­on and now, it is my responsibi­lity to help shape the life of other students,” he said.

For Chaitanya Rathore, BA student of Navyug Girls’ Degree College, winning the Chancellor’s Silver medal for being the best girl student is not enough. “I want to get into defence and serve the country,” said Chaitanya who was also lauded for participat­ing in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.

“I feel proud to be chosen for this honour,” said Chaitanya who helped raise money for Kerala flood victims. “Now, this medal has bestowed on me additional responsibi­lity,” she said.

The Dr Chakravart­i Gold medal for services was awarded to BA student Anchal Saxena who said she wanted to join the civil services to serve the society. The medal is awarded to a student for his / her good behaviour and helpful attitude. “In my spare time, I teach kids living in slums. This medal inspires me to further help needy students,” she said.
