VARANASI: A magisterial probe has been ordered into the alleged action against a student over chanting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’ at Gandhi Mohammad Ali Memorial Inter College, Belthara Road, Ballia, district magistrate Bhavani Singh Khangaraut said.

The DM along with superintendent of police Shriparna Ganguly visited the college to examine the allegation. They inquired about the incident from college principal Mazid Nasir in his chamber.

They asked the principal to clarify that there was no ban on chanting Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata ki Jai at the college. Khangaraut said a committee constituted to probe the issue will record statements of students, teachers and others.

Four students of the college in Ballia were thrashed by other students on Monday allegedly at the behest of the institution’s authorities for complaining that they were not allowed to sing ‘Vande Matram’ and chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ in the institute, police said.In his complaint to the police, Anuj Kumar Gaud, one of the four students who were attacked, said the assailants were fellow students who had been instigated by the college authorities. Gaur claimed that college principal and other teachers were angry with him because he told a member of the social organisation and media persons on Friday that chanting ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Matram’ was not allowed in the college. According to the police, Anuj told them that action was taken if students chanted ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.College principal Majid Nasir denied all the allegations calling them baseless.
