LUCKNOW: A day after the Yogi Adityanath government reached out to Hindus by clearing projects over Rs 300 crore for Kumbh, the Bharatiya Janata Party declared that it would continue with its Hindutva outreach programmes and wondered why no political party ever thought of Hindus before.

BJP spokesman Chandramohan asked opposition leaders to explain what their governments did for temples and ashrams before the BJP came to power in Uttar Pradesh.

Chandramohan’s attack on the opposition is part of a calibrated strategy to take on the opposition over the alleged neglect of issues relating to ‘Hindu pride.’

“Our governments are being run on the issue of sabka saath, sabka vikas but we would like to know why issues of Hindu pride were ignored by non-BJP parties and why suddenly they have started remembering Hindu gods again?,” Chandramohan asked.

“The UP government’s decision to fund religious fairs Naimisharanya, Vindhyavasini and Pateshwari is a laudable step. UP is developing into an ideal place for religious tourism. Since assuming power as chief minister, Yogi Adityanath and his government have set about restoring the lost dignity and glory of the temples and ashrams in the state. It’s time opposition parties explain what they did for temples during their tenure,” he asked.

Slamming opposition leaders for visiting places of Hindu interest elections approach, he said, “It’s time that opposition leaders visiting temples so close to Lok Sabha polls, reveal why they ignored temples and other aspects of Hindu interests.”
