Shia College, JNPGC in final

LUCKNOW: Shia College and JNPG College stormed into the final of the 47th Sundari Devi Inter PG Collegiate Cricket Tournament, notching up convincing wins here on Thursday.

Shia College defeated Vidyant Hindu PG College by seven wickets, whereas JNPG College beat National College by 41 runs.

Hasan Akhtar smashed an unbeaten 63 to help Shia PG College successful­ly score 130/7 in 17.5 overs while chasing 127 in 20 overs. In the second match, it was Bhupendra Singh, who fashioned team’s victory, hitting a fine 79, which guided JNPGC score 174/7 in 20 overs. In reply, National PG College could make 133/9. Jitendra took five wickets.

Vidyant Hindu College 126 in 20 overs (Arbaaz Ahmed 63, Mohit Verma 26, Abid 2/20, Anubhav Srivastava 2/20) lost to Shia PG College 130 for 7 in 17.5 overs (Hasan Akhtar 63*, Vinay 32, Utkarsh Awasthi 2/36).

JNPG College 174 for 7 in 20 overs (Bhupendra Singh 79, Arvind Rajput 35, Sandeep Yadav 4/32, Anurag 2/25) lost to National PG College 133 for 9 in 20 overs (Abhijeet Rawat 61, Himanshu 21, Jitendra Kumar 5/24, Surendra Kumar 3/22).

MOHIT WINS BRONZE

Mohit Thapa of Uttar Pradesh won a bronze medal in the 27th Senior National Wushu Championsh­ip being held in Meghalaya.

SUNDAY CHESS

The 10th Shivani Cup Sunday Open Chess Tournament will see the participat­ion of women players for the first time. The event offers Rs 10,000 as cash award.

ILLEGAL EVENT

The District Football Associatio­n on Thursday warned the players of its affiliated units not to participat­e in the ongoing Hemwanti Nandan Bahuguna Football Tournament as the event is not at all recognized by the DFA.

“The event is unauthoriz­ed so no player/unit of the DFA should participat­e in it,” DFA secretary Kanhaya Lal states on Thursday.

CAL LEAGUE

Amidst controvers­y, the Cricket Associatio­n Lucknow on Thursday announced the pool of teams for its D division league, expected to start from October 15. In all 37 teams have been divided in four pools of the newly constitute­d D division.
