Probe begins: Top rly official inspects derailment site
LUCKNOW: Chief commissioner railway safety (CCRS) SP Pathak on Friday inspected the site where the Delhi-bound MLDT NDLS Express derailed in Harchandpur area of Rae Bareli district on Wednesday, railway officials said. The inspection marked the beginning of the high level probe into the derailment that claimed the lives of seven train passengers and caused serious injuries to over 30.

The inspection marked the beginning of the high level probe into the derailment that claimed the lives of seven train passengers and caused serious injuries to over 30.
The CRS also recorded the statements of the loco pilots and railway staffers, including the guard, the electrical signal monitor and signal inspector, to find out the causes of the accident.
In a statement, Northern Railway officials said the loco pilot said the signals suggested the tracks were set for the main line, but the train suddenly began moving on the loop line. By the time the emergency brakes were applied, the bogies had gone off the track. The statements of 28 other officials were also recorded.
After the statements were recorded, it was concluded that the train was moving at 75km per hour at the time of derailment, officials said.

Lucknow-Rae Bareli route was restored on Thursday. It took more than 25 hours for the officials from different departments of railways to clear and repair the track that was damaged after the MLDT-NDLS Express derailed.
As per Northern Railway (NR) assessment, the railways suffered losses of around ₹3.47 crore in the train accident.
Giving a breakdown of the damage, a Northern Railway assessment report said, “Railway track worth ₹ 40 lakh, carriage and wagon of around ₹3 crores, signal and loco worth ₹3 lakh and ₹4 lakh respectively were damaged.”
Some railway officials said the chief CRS also checked the data logger and the signalling section.
Meanwhile, three more injured passengers were discharged from the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow.
