Kukrail nullah encroachers given 24 hrs to remove their structures

LUCKNOW : Encroachers jammed the road near Sarvodaya Nagar and raised slogans against the demolition drive of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) and irrigation department, when a combined team reached the spot to get encroachments on the Kukrail nullah removed.

The police had to be called when encroachers surrounded LMC and irrigation department officials and brought the situation under control. The anti-encroachment squad left warning the encroachers to remove structures within 24 hours, as they would return again on Saturday for the cleaning of the Kukrail nullah.

After the directives of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the LMC and irrigation department had prepared a plan to clean the Kukrail nullah and remove encroachments around it.

On Friday, a team of LMC, led by zonal officer zone III Rajesh Gupta, started removing encroachments near the Paper Mill colony end of the Kukrail Nullah. They then moved towards Sarvodaya Nagar, where, as soon as the LMC team began the drive, the encroachers gathered and blocked the road and started raising slogans against the LMC officials.

Surrounded by encroachers the LMC team called more force which arrived from two police stations.

The team of irrigation department, LMC officials was shocked to see the number of dairies operating on both sides of the Kukrail nullah. Some of the residents had opened small shops inside their makeshift houses. These residents were defecating directly in the nullah.
