MEERUT: Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chaudhary’s campaign ‘selfie with gaddha’, which aims at exposing the state government’s claim of pothole- free roads, has gained momentum in the region.

Party officials claim a lot of people have taken interest in the initiative and sent their selfies with potholes in their respective areas, which would be forwarded to the government.

Chaudhary had launched this movement on social media in Lucknow on Thursday, asking people to click selfies with potholes on the roads in their respective areas and send them to #selfiewithgaddha so that they could be forwarded to the right place. Speaking to Hindustan Times on phone, Chaudhary said roads in the state were in a terrible condition and the state government paid no heed to people’s problems. He said that 987 persons died in road accidents in UP last year, yet the government had not increased the budget for improving condition of roads.

Briefing about the campaign, he said, “Now people have been asked to come out and use social media to raise their problems. We are helping the government by launching this campaign so that it may know the truth behind the tall claims of pothole-free roads in the state.”

RLD spokesperson Sunil Rohta claimed that people had shown interest in the campaign and many of themsent selfies with potholes.
