Bihar cop’s son shoots at kin of former MLA murder witness in Allahabad

ALLAHABAD :A Bihar police sub-inspector’s son chased a youth and shot him in a leg in Pritam Nagar area under Dhumanganj police station here on Friday, police said. The youth hid himself in an ATM booth and saved himself from sustaining more gunshots. The motive for the attack was being investigat­ed, police said.

The victim is the nephew of a witness in the Raju Pal murder case. Raju Pal, the then Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA from Allahabad West, was shot dead in Allahabad on January 25, 2005. After the Friday’s incident, animal husbandry minister SP Baghel visited the Dhumanganj police station and called senior superinten­dent of police Nitin Tiwari in connection with the incident. As per reports, Divyanshu Pal, nephew of Umesh Pal, a witness in the Raju Pal murder case, and his friend Sagar had gone to withdraw cash from an ATM in Pritam Nagar on Friday.

Mohammad Navi, the sub-inspector’s son, and his friends Manish and Luv Vishwakarm­a opened fire on Divyansh at the time. Divyansh received a bullet injury in his leg, but he managed to enter the ATM booth to save himself. The assailants fled when residents of the area rushed to the scene.

Baghel, who had came to meet Umesh Pal, also reached Dhumanganj police station. He called the SSP and gave instructio­ns for early arrest of the accused. Divyansh was admitted to the SRN hospital.
