LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday said the people had realised that it was time to wipe out the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Uttar Pradesh.

Paying tribute to socialist leader Dr Ram Manohar Lohia at Lohia Park to mark his death anniversary, Akhilesh said Lohia showed the path of struggle and the Samajwadi Party followed his philosophies and ideals. “People have understood that it is time to wipe out the BJP. They are eagerly waiting for elections,” he said.Akhilesh accused the BJP of stalling all development works and said that despite completing two years in office, the BJP government had no work of its own to showcase.

“Samajwadi Party does not engage in the politics of religion and caste. The party struggles for poor, hungry and is against corruption. Whenever the SP has made government, it worked for fulfilling the dreams of Dr Lohia,” he said.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of another SP icon Jayaprakash Narayan on Thursday, the SP’s event was attended by BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha and former BJP leader Yashwant Singh. Recalling the event, Akhilesh said Jayaprakash Narayan gave the slogan of ‘Sampoorn Kranti’ (absolute revolution) and the party had resolved for the absolute annihilation of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

Referring to the Rafale deal, Akhilesh said: “They used to claim that their record was clean. Now, people are pointing fingers at them.”Referring to violence on Allahabad University campus after the students’ union elections, he said when they lost the elections, they triggered violence.Cautioning the party cadre that BJP was known for diverting public attention from real issues, he said they should create awareness among the people.
