RAIPUR : Attacking the BJP, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday said the Ram temple issue was gaining momentum as elections approached but added the ruling party will not derive any political benefit from it this time.

The BSP chief was speaking at her first rally organised by Ajit Jogi’s Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC) in Bilaspur. Mayawati has stitched alliance with Jogi’s party. While the BSP will contest 35 seats, the JCC will fight 55 seats in the 90-member assembly.

“The BJP and the RSS are believers in the ‘capitalist system’. They are using various measures to strengthen their system in the name of Hindutva,” BSP chief alleged at the rally where about 50,000 people were present.

Mayawati further said frequent incidents of mob lynching in the name of gau raksha in BJP-ruled states were a blot on democracy.

“The BJP government at the state and the centre are apathetic about mob lynching and other atrocities on dalits and tribals. They are biased when it comes to Dalits, tribals and Muslims from the very beginning,” she added.

Talking about the Rafale issue, Mayawati said, “The BJP is not giving any answer to the people of this country.”

However, she further said the role of both the Congress and the BJP were questionable when it came to defence scams in the country.

Speaking on the alliance with Jogi, she said that BSP will give more respect to Ajit Jogi.

“The alliance is very important for the people of Chhattisgarh because the earlier governments were anti- Dalit, ant-poor and anti-tribal,” she said.

Mayawati further said the Chhattisgarh government had done nothing for people who now wanted change.

She accused the Modi government of not fulfilling most of the election promises.

“The black money issue was not addressed. Not a single person got Rs 15 lakh as per the BJP government’s promise before the 2014 elections. They talked about price rise, unemployment and the poor but nothing was done. They have ditched the poor, the youth and farmers of the country,” said Mayawati.

Reacting to Mayawati’s allegations, BJP spokesperson, Sacchinand Upasane said, “The BJP is a party of all and has done work for every section of the society. It is because of parties like the BSP and the Congress that this country is divided on the ground of caste and religion.”
