Girl dies af­ter re­turn­ing from ‘Beti Bachao...’ event

HAR­DOI: A Class 9 stu­dent, Supriya Sharma, died here af­ter re­turn­ing from ‘Beti Bachao Beti Pad­hao’ func­tion, or­gan­ised on the oc­ca­sion of In­ter­na­tional Day of the Girl Child.

The con­di­tion of the girl de­te­ri­o­rated as soon as she re­turned home from the event.

She was suf­fer­ing from high fever when her par­ents took her to the hospi­tal, where she died dur­ing treat­ment.

The fam­ily of the girl ac­cused the dis­trict au­thor­i­ties of not mak­ing proper ar­range­ment at the event and of be­ing care­less.

“She went to at­tend the func­tion. But the ar­range­ments there were not up to the mark. Drink­ing wa­ter was not avail­able. When my daugh­ter came back home, she was suf­fer­ing from high fever,” said the girl’s fa­ther.

Mean­while, Ba­sic Shik­sha Ad­hikari, Har­doi, He­mant Rao, de­nied the al­le­ga­tion lev­elled by the fam­ily of the girl and said the

au­thor­i­ties made all ar­range­ments and that they were not re­spon­si­ble for the girl’s death .

“Ev­ery fa­cil­ity, in­clud­ing med­i­cal and drink­ing wa­ter, was avail­able . The ac­cu­sa­tion made by the fam­ily is base­less and the mat­ter is be­ing probed,” he said.

Around 11,000 school girls gath­ered here on Thurs­day to script a world record by tak­ing an oath for ‘Beti Bachao Beti Pad­hao’ cam­paign.

The ini­tia­tive was taken by the dis­trict ad­min­is­tra­tion and rep­re­sen­ta­tives of Eura­sia World.
