-

LUCKNOW: An FIR has been lodged by Deepa Sharma, sister of Dr Manisha, a JR-III posted in the department of gynaecology at the King George’s Medical University, who was admitted in critical condition as a case of poisoning a day before.

Manisha, 30, is presently on ventilator support in the trauma ventilator unit and the KGMU authorities say she is comatose.

The FIR has been lodged against Dr Udham Singh, a senior resident of KGMU, under Section 306, abettment of suicide. In the FIR, Deepa has said that the call informing her about Manisha’s condition was first made by this doctor .

Manisha, who was presently posted in the department of gynaecology, was found unconscious in her room. She was admitted at 8.30 pm on Saturday as a case of suspected poisoning.

Dr Singh said he reached the room after he got a call from her. “She told me she was not well but as I was taking round in the ward I reached her room about half-an-hour after the call and saw her in the room with the injection vial that is used to relax muscles,” he said, adding: “I immediately called the resident next door whose husband is an anaesthetist and he conducted cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). When we reached the trauma centre, CPR was done again and her heart was revived after which she was put on ventilator.”

Dr Singh said he called up Dr Manisha’s sister and informed her about the incident.

“Her condition has been explained to the relatives who reached here on Sunday. Manisha is on life support system with cardiac drugs,” said Dr Santosh Kumar, spokesperson, KGMU. He said it was still not clear why and how Dr Manisha reached such a serious condition.

Senior doctors of the KGMU, including those from the department of gynaecology, visited the trauma centre and took stock of Dr Manisha’s condition. However, all were tight lipped over the reasons behind the incident.
