Jewellery, cash worth ₹30L stolen from bizman’s house

LUCKNOW: Jewellery and cash worth ₹30 lakh were stolen from a businessma­n’s house in the Jankipuram police circle here on Sunday night, police said. Police have registered a case in the matter and initiated an investigat­ion.

The incident took place in the rented house of one Anil Kumar, a native of Barabanki. Kumar, along with his wife and three children, had shifted there only four months ago.

“I went to my ancestral place in Barabanki with my family on Saturday. When we returned today (on Monday), we found the lock of our main door broken and jewellery and cash stolen,” Kumar said.

Though the family has not submitted a detailed list of things stolen from their house, Kumar asserted that the total value of the stolen items was around ₹30 lakh.

“I was planning to open a jewellery shop and had brought gold and silver jewellery worth ₹30 lakh for the same. Besides the jewellery, around ₹70,000 in cash was also stolen,” he added.

Based on Kumar’s complaint, Jankipuram police has lodged an FIR regarding the matter under relevant sections.

“We have formed a team under a sub-inspector to investigat­e the matter,” said station house officer (SHO) of Jankipuram, Umakant Deepak.

The investigat­ors sent a canine unit and forensic experts to the house for collecting evidence.

“We have also obtained video footage of CCTV cameras installed near the house for examinatio­n. The teams have also recorded the statements of the family members and neighbours,” the SHO said.

NO FORMAL COMPLAINT WAS LODGED BY THE DECEASED’S RELATIVES WITH THE POLICE REGARDING THE INCIDENT TILL THIS REPORT WAS FILED.
