MUMBAI :Ashu, the wife of actor Alok Nath, on Monday filed a civil defamation suit in the Dindoshi sessions court against writer-producer Vinta Nanda, who has accused Alok Nath of allegedly raping her 19 years ago. She has sought a written apology and a compensation of ₹1 from Nanda.

In a social media post in the wake of India’s #MeToo movement, Nanda, the writer and producer of tele serial Tara in the 90s, in which Nath played the lead role, alleged the actor assaulted her sexually.

Actors Sandhya Mridul and Deepika Amin have made similar claims on a social networking site.

Ashu submitted before magistrate RM Nerlikar that Nanda’s allegation has defamed her husband and her.

She has requested the court to issue an injunction restraining Nanda from releasing content that will damage their reputation.

Sushil Upadhyay, Ashu’s lawyer, told the court they need to examine three witnesses to support their case.

The court has allowed them to do so during the next hearing on November 1.

Upadhyay said, “We have not revealed the name of the witnesses, but they are from the film industry. After examination in court, it will be proved how Nanda has been making defamatory statements.”
