STEELERS END HOME CAMPAIGN WITH WIN OVER DABANG DELHI

SONEPAT: Haryana Steelers ended their home leg with a hard-fought 34-31 win over Dabang Delhi KC in the Pro Kabaddi League here on Thursday. It was an impressive team performanc­e by Haryana, ending a four-match losing streak. Vikas Kandola came up with crucial raids and got able support from Monu Goyat and Naveen Kumar.

Dabang Delhi didn’t do much wrong but failed to capitalise on opportunit­ies. Their star player Meraj Sheykh had a disappoint­ing match and scored just two points. Haryana Steelers’ defence did a fine job on Delhi raiders as they led for the majority of the first half.

With less than 10 minutes to go, the match was evenly poised as Haryana Steelers had a twopoint advantage. Vikas Kandola made a super raid in the 32nd minute as Haryana Steelers led 28-22 before sealing victory.

NEHRU HOCKEY

NEW DELHI: One-sided matches were the order of the day in the league stage of the Nehru subjunior hockey tournament here at the Shivaji Stadium on Thursday. Sangrur’s Government Senior Secondary School thrashed SNBP School, Pune 23-0, while Army Boys Sports Company, Danapur got the better of Motilal Nehru School of Sports, Rai scoring a 21-0 win. Delhi’s Government School (Ghuman Hera) also scored a facile 16-4 win over Sri Guru Nanak Khalsa High School, Ganganagar. In another match, Faridkot’s Government School beat Gautam Public School, Ahmednagar 14-1.

NEW DELHI: Four goals by Matthew Philip Perry helped Rajnigandh­a Achievers overcome 61st Cavalry by 7 goals to 6-1/2 in a league match of the BhopalPata­udi Cup (8 Goal) polo tournament here on Thursday. Rajnigandh­a Achievers will take on Jindal Panther in the semi-finals on Saturday. The other semi-final pits LA-Pegasus Polo Titans against Sona Polo.
