LUCKNOW: The younger son of Uttar Pradesh legislative council chairman Ramesh Yadav was found murdered under mysterious circumstances in Yadav’s official quarters in Darul Shafa under Hazratganj police station here on Sunday.

The family initially claimed that the youth Abhijit Yadav, 22, died of ill-health but the post mortem examination conducted later in the evening confirmed ‘asphyxia caused by strangulation ’ as the cause of death.

“Based on the post mortem report, we have lodged an FIR of murder against unknown assailants, ” said senior superintendent of police Kalanidhi Naithani .

Abhijit, who was a BSc part 2 student, lived at the Darul Shafa quarters with his mother Meera Yadav and elder brother Abhishek, 27, a businessman. His father Ramesh Yadav, who is MLC from Etah, lives separately in another official residence.

Meera Yadav told reporters that her husband Ramesh did not give her the rights of a wife. She went on to say that the life of her elder son Abhishek was also in danger

According to police officials, Meera and Abhishek were at home when Abhijit died. They initially informed the police that he died due to illness.

Meera told the police that Abhijit returned home at around 11 pm on Saturday night and complained of chest pain. When she went to wake him in the morning, he did not get up. So she called her elder son Abhishek, who found that Abhijit was not breathing and there

was no pulse.

Though the police reached the quarters after the incident, the family members refused to lodge any complaint and decided to take the body for cremation. However, police intervened, suspecting foul play. “Abhijit’s body was seized from the cremation ground and sent for post-mortem to rule out possibility of foul play,” said Naithani .

The post mortem examination was conducted by a panel of doctors and forensic experts.

Afterwards, police handed over the body to the family who directly took it for cremation. The council chairman, who was out of Lucknow, also returned and was present at the cremation.

The last rites were underway by the time this report was filed.

“So far, the family of the deceased have only submitted an application regarding the incident on the basis of which post mortem examination was conducted . Investigating teams will also record statements of the family members regarding the death,” said the SSP .

Legislative council chairman Ramesh Yadav said that he and his family were in shock after Abhijit’s death.

“We are all in shock after the incident and are hurt to learn that he was murdered. The family is ready to cooperate with the police in the investigation,” Yadav told HT on phone, adding that the family members had cordial relations and there was no dispute. “I last met Abhijit in September when I was hospitalised for a surgery. I am not aware of any dispute in the family or about his animosity with anyone,” Yadav said.
