CM announces increased pension for ailing cops and financial help to those suffering disability on duty

LUCKNOW : Paying tributes to police martyrs, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday announced increased pension for police personnel who slipped into coma or were bed-ridden due to injury suffered on duty.

Speaking on Police Smriti Diwas (Police Commemorat­ion Day) at Reserve Police Lines in Mahanagar here, Yogi also announced grace amount for cops disabled due to injuries caused while on duty.

So far, the police department has no policy of providing any financial assistance to cops who slip into coma after injury on duty, following which their families have to go through acute financial crisis.

Yogi said a three-member committee would be constitute­d to give suggestion­s for modernisat­ion and strengthen­ing of police force. He said the process of setting up reserve police lines in seven districts, including Chanduali, Amroha, Auraiya, Amethi, Shamli, Sambhal and Hapur was already on. Constructi­on of barracks with all basic facilities was also under considerat­ion, he added. The CM said the state government was also going to ease norms for medical claims up to ₹ 1 lakh. He said the medical claims up to ₹ 1 lakh could be directly cleared by the department heads and a government order would be issued to the medical department in this connection by November 30, 2018. He also assured that the proposal to increase bicycle and uniform wages would be cleared soon. The commemorat­ion parade on the occasion was led by SSP Lucknow, Kalanidhi Naithani. Hundreds of senior police officials, including DG Intelligen­ce Bhavesh Kumar Singh, ADG Law and Order, Anand Kumar, ADG Ashutosh Pandey, ADG Lucknow Rajeev Krishna, IG Lucknow Sujeet Pandey, IG Navniet Sekera, DIG Praveen Kumar and many others were present. Chief secretary Anoop Chandra Pandey and principal secretary (home), Arvind Kumar also paid tributes to the police martyrs.

ROADS TO BE NAMED AFTER 2 MARTYRS

The chief minister announced that the connecting roads of martyred constable Ankit Tomar’s native village Wajidpur in Baghpat and martyred SI Jai Prakash Singh’s native village Banewar in Jaunpur would be named after them. He said the government order for this would be issued soon. Tomar died fighting a gang of dreaded criminals in Shamli district on January 3, 2018 and Singh made the supreme sacrifice during a fierce encounter with dreaded dacoit Babli Kol in Chitrakoot last August.

₹ 25 LAKH EX-GRATIA

The CM said the state government was also making efforts to provide ex-gratia of ₹ 25 lakh to UP residents who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty while serving other states’ police forces, central paramilita­ry forces and armed forces. The ex-gratia of ₹ 25 lakh to residents of other states who sacrificed their lives in the line duty while serving any police and armed forces was already being given, he added.

the state. He added that more efforts and initiative­s were required to maintain it and improve it further.
