Mayor misused official machinery on birthday, allege corporators

LUCKNOW: Corporators of opposition parties have accused Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia of misusing the official machinery to celebrate her birthday.

Leader of opposition in Lucknow Municipal Corporation ( LMC) house Sayyed YAwar Hussain ‘Reshu’ said the Mayor inaugurated some projects at LMC house but there was no project in the wards of any non BJP corporator.

Funds to the tune of Rs 11 crore were misused for the celebration, he alleged.

Congress corporator Girish Mishra said, “More than 50 hoardings were put up to wish the Mayor on her birthday. All these hoardings were illegal and dented the LMC coffers. The mayor visited a number of places for the celebration, using government vehicle.”

The opposition corporators said that they would raise the issue of misuse of official machinery by mayor in the next LMC house meeting.

However, Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia said that she celebrated her birthday amid the sanitation workers and if this was wrong and wastage of money, then she was proud to have done it .

She said , “I have never discriminated between the corporators. Some BJP corporators came to me with the offer of laying foundation stone of projects in their wards. All these projects are being carried out with their own quota , I have not diverted any money to their wards .”
