Farmers imparted training in fruit farming
LUCKNOW: ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH), organised training under ‘Certified farm adviser of fruits for professional excellence’ recently. Horticulture and agriculture officers from Andman Nicobar Island, Tamil Nadu, UP, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh participated in the 15-day training programme at ICAR-CISH.
They were trained in recent technologies of production of mango, guava, citrus, strawberry and other fruit crops. Apart from officers from six states, scientists from CISH, IISR, NBFGR also participated. Shailendra Rajan, director, ICAR-CISH gave examples of innovations by farmers from different parts of the country for getting attractive returns.
National Institute of Agricultural Extensions Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad has selected ICAR-CISH for professional excellence in “Certified Farm Advisory of Fruits” where candidates were imparted intensive knowledge of fruits.
MANAGE launched a “Certified Farm Advisor” programme to develop agricultural extension personnel into specialists in a fruit crop. Specialization training was taken up when minimum 20 candidates were enrolled. Based on the choice of the crop, candidates were sponsored to relevant ICAR-CISH department to undergo training for 15 days.
During the training, the candidates learned the latest technologies relevant to fruit crop. After completing the training, candidates were allotted mentor scientist/s from the concerned research institute for a period of one year for technical guidance to face the field level challenges under module-III.
