RAIPUR : Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said the Congress was against the construction of Ram mandir in Ayodhya and had therefore wanted the Supreme Court to defer its ruling on the issue to post 2019 elections. “Congress doesn’t want to solve the Ram Mandir issue. They are against Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya because they have not done any development but disturbed the fabric of the society,” said Adityanath.

RAIPUR: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said the Congress was against the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and had therefore wanted the Supreme Court to defer its ruling on the issue to post 2019 elections.

Adityanath was addressing a rally in Raipur in favour of Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh who filed his nomination from Rajnandgaon constituency on Tuesday —the last day of filing of nominations for the first phase of assembly polls on November 12.

“Congress doesn’t want to solve the Ram Mandir issue. They are against Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya because they have not done any development but disturbed the fabric of the society. They were only engaged in appeasement politics,” said Adityanath.

“Naxalism, separatism and terrorism are the result of the ill-doings of the Congress,” said Adityanath while accusing Congress president Rahul Gandhi of misleading people by giving useless statements against the army and Kashmir.

“Some people do not like developed India. These people talk about Kashmir freedom when they are in Kashmir and when they are in Chhattisgarh they visit temple,” he said in an apparent reference to Rahul Gandhi.

“Pandit Nehru once said that he was an accidental Hindu but his fourth generation heir has now developed the habit of visiting temples,” he added.

During filing nominations, Singh touched feet of Yogi Adityanath and took his blessings.

The two-time MLA from Rajanandgaon constituency, Singh is seeking fourth consecutive term as chief minister.

Congress has fielded Karuna Shukla, niece of former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee against Singh from Rajnandgaon. Ahead of filing nominations, Singh told reporters, “I have full faith on the strength of party workers and booth level workers. The BJP has dedicated this election to Atal ji and each party worker has vowed to form the government for the fourth consecutive term with a thumping majority in the state”.

When asked about Karuna Shukla contesting against him, Singh said, “Congress has no local candidate against me”
