Ward-wise cleanliness campaign from Nov 15
LUCKNOW: After a dismal show in the nationwide cleanliness survey last year, the UP government has decided to launch a monthlong cleanliness campaign across all cities in the state from November 15 under Modi government’s ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.
“The campaign would be undertaken across all cities and 12,007 wards in local bodies in UP. We have laid down several indicators on the basis of which evaluation of wards would be done. The ward, which receives the maximum number of points out of 2,000 set aside for the purpose, would be felicitated at a ceremony to be organised on December 25, on the occasion of former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee’s birth anniversary,” said urban development minister Suresh Khanna.
He said the assessment of wards would be done on various parameters like arrangement for solid waste management, disposal of garbage, greenery, status of toilets, ODF, public participation, awareness and feedback. Highest numbers (360) have been set aside for arrangement for garbage disposal. The minister released a book containing guidelines for the cleanliness mission 2018. It would be distributed to create awareness among the masses. Khanna said 15,000 tonnes of garbage was being generated every day in cities across UP.
It is a huge exercise that requires a concerted effort and participation of RWAs, schools, hospitals and citizens,” the minister said. He said local bodies were carrying out a door-to-door garbage collection drive, constructing community and public toilets and encouraging people not to throw garbage.
