:LUCKNOW :Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Schedule Caste Finance and Development Corporation Lalji Prasad Nirmal, on Tuesday, demanded action against former minister and senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan for allegedly using derogatory language against Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar around two years ago.

Nirmal also questioned the silence of BSP chief Mayawati and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on the issue.

It may be pointed out that on September 6, 2016, Azam Khan had allegedly given an objectionable statement on Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar during the inaugural ceremony of Haj House in Ghaziabad.

“The entire Dalit community was insulted by Azam Khan’s statement. He used derogatory language for Babasaheb,” Nirmal told the media.

“What is more worrying that neither BSP chief Mayawati nor Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav have till date reacted on Azam Khan’s statement,” said Nirmal.

He demanded a public apology from Azam Khan on the issue.

“Babasaheb was an architect of India’s constitution. We will not tolerate such words against him,” he added.

On the question, why this reaction on Azam Khan’s statement after two years, Nirmal said: “Now, former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is trying to prove himself a well -wisher of Dalits. But till date he has not said anything on Azam Khan’s statement against Babasaheb. Therefore, I decided to bring this issue on public domain.”

Later, the Ambedkar Mahasabha also lodged a non-cognizable offence information report against Azam Khan at the Hazratganj police station.
