LUCKNOW Now, passengers can use plastic money to buy edibles on the station premises and on the berths as the Railways is going to update its payment system. It will now facilitate the train passengers to use their debit and credit cards to make payments.

Railways officials said that the point of sales (POS) terminals would be made provided to the vendors on the station’s premises and also those serving edibles onboard.

“It’s an attempt to minimise the cash transaction, replacing it by online one. Other than the vendors at the station, the facility would initially be introduced only in selective trains including Duranto, Rajdhani, Shatabdi and others prime trains.

Prior to this, the Railways entered into a tie-up with an online food delivery giant—Food Panda, to cater its passengers onboard. Under the service, passengers can order their meals (both veg and non-veg) by calling on a toll free number—18001034139 or on 01204383892-99 or by sending a simple SMS—Meal (Space) (PNR) on 139.

In both the ways, passengers have to mention their PNR number, with the help of which the service managers will locate the berth number to ensure accurate delivery. Service will be available only on confirmed PNR numbers.

Once placed, the details of the order, PNR number, number of the train, coach and berth number along with the billed amount will be sent to the passengers through an SMS.
