UP govt to sign MoU with Japan for investment in agriculture sector
LUCKNOW: The Yogi government will sign a memorandum of understanding with Japan for investment in agriculture sector at the three-day ‘Krishi Kumbh 2018’ starting from Friday, the first such farmers’ conclave in the state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the conclave through video conferencing in which around one lakh farmers, agriculture scientists, and entrepreneurs are expected to take part.
Representatives of various corporate houses will also be present at the Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research here, venue of the event.
Israel and Japan are partner countries of the Uttar Pradesh government in the conclave. Daan Aloof from the Israel embassy, New Delhi, will represent his country at the conclave.
Apart from this, states of Bihar and Uttarakhand will be represented by their respective agriculture ministers.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Union agriculture minister Radhamohan Singh and agriculture minister in the state government Surya Pratap Shahi among others will be present .
“An MoU will be signed with Japan for technical upgradation in farming,” Surya Pratap Shahi told newsmen here on Thursday.
In the three-day event, 14 sessions will be organised covering various aspects of the agriculture sector. Last session will be on India –Japan for making farming profitable in India.
A session on developing farming in the Bundelkhand region will also be organised for farmers of the region in which experts will deliberate on topics like optimum use of water and barren land. A session on start-up in agriculture is also slated.
“A session on integrated farming system and organic farming will also be organised for increasing farmers’ income and productivity,” said Prabhat Kumar, agriculture production commission, state government.
Uttar Pradesh is among the top agriculture producers in the country with 36 percent of wheat and 12 percent of paddy output. Besides, the state also accounts for 35 percent of potato and 40 percent of sugarcane production in the country.
A special session on animal husbandry will also be organised at the farmers’ conclave.
In this session, farmers will be given valuable tips related with rearing of animals, including cattle and chicken. This session will also include topics related with fisheries and dairy.
It may be pointed out that Uttar Pradesh is first in vegetable production, second in production of rice, barley and pearl millet and second in guava production in the country.
According to the Uttar Pradesh agriculture ministry, there are around 2.33 crore farmers in the state. Out of theses, 92.5% are small and marginal farmers and employment in the agriculture sector is 67.68%.
