6 militants killed in 2 encounters in Kashmir, third fight on in Pulwama

SRINAGAR: Six militants were killed in two separate encounters in Kashmir’s Baramulla and Anantnag district on Thursday, while another gunfight was on in Pulwama , police said.

Senior superinten­dent of police, Baramulla, Imtiaz Hussain said, “Two militants were killed and they have not been identified. We are trying our best to ascertain their identities.’’

However, an official, on condition of anonymity, said the militants, Shoaib Akhoon was a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander and another a LeT militant

SINCE SUNDAY, 11 MILITANTS HAVE BEEN KILLED IN THREE SEPARATE ENCOUNTERS ACROSS KASHMIR. SEVEN CIVILIANS WERE ALSO KILLED IN AN EXPLOSION AT KULGAM SOON AFTER AN ENCOUNTER ENDED ON SUNDAY.

Meanwhile, four militants were gunned down in another encounter at Arwani village in Anantnag in a joint operation by the Army and J&K police.

A police spokesman said that another operation is in progress at Lam Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama.

Since Sunday, 11 militants have been killed in three separate encounters across Kashmir. Seven civilians were also killed in an explosion at Kulgam soon after an encounter ended on Sunday.

Shutdown in Valley

A strike was observed in the Valley against the killing of research scholar-turned-militant Sabzar Ahmad Sofi, who was killed in an encounter in the outskirts of Srinagar on Wednesday. The call for shutdown was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership.
