To keep fit, select your food carefully: Experts
LUCKNOW: One should select one’s food carefully to keep fit, said experts at a nutrition conference conducted here on Friday.
“One needs to understand that just eating is not enough but what and when to eat is important,” said Deepti Srivastava, dietician with the KGMU. She said that people often did not focus on timing and quantity of food intake.
“In India, malnourishment is a big issue and we rank 5th in obesity in the world. This shows we do not focus on correct eating even if we have enough resources to feed ourselves,” she said.
Deepika Anand, a nutritionist working with the World Bank, shared statistics and said the incidence of shunting among kids, malnutrition and other health issues indicated the need for correct eating.
She said an Eat Right India movement was launched in August 2018 to spread awareness about key nutrition issues of food fortification, food safety and importance of nutrition during the first 1000 days and reducing intake of fat, salt and sugar in everyday diet.
Under Eat Right India movement, a Swasth Bharat Yatra was launched on World Food Day, October 16.
Under this movement, 7500 plus cyclists are undertaking a relay cyclathon, covering 18,000 plus kilometres across India and spreading awareness around nutrition.
The Yatra will reach Lucknow on January 2 and culminate in Delhi on January 27.
