COP, PDP WORKER KILLED IN J&K

SRINAGAR : A police officer was killed by suspected militants on Sunday in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district even as a political worker succumbed to injuries after being shot at by an unidentifi­ed gunmen, a few hours later, in Srinagar, officials said.Police officials identified the slain cop as sub-inspector Imtiyaz Ahmad but did not reveal how the officer was killed.“We have lost SI Imtiyaz of JKP in a terror incident at Pulwama. We condemn this gruesome killing and pay our sincere tribute to the officers. @JmuKmrPoli­ce,” tweeted out from the official handle of the Kashmir Police.

SRINAGAR: A police officer was killed by suspected militants on Sunday in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district even as a political worker succumbed to injuries after being shot at by an unidentifi­ed gunmen, a few hours later, in Srinagar, officials said.

Police officials identified the slain cop as sub-inspector Imtiyaz Ahmad but did not reveal how the officer was killed.

“We have lost SI Imtiyaz of JKP in a terror incident at Pulwama. We condemn this gruesome killing and pay our sincere tribute to the officers. Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family at this juncture. @JmuKmrPoli­ce,” tweeted out from the official handle of the Kashmir Police.

Local reports said that Imtiyaz was working with police’s intelligen­ce gathering wing — CID when he was abducted by gunmen at Wahibug, Pulwama which is his home district. Reports said the gunmen waylaid his car and took him to the nearby Rumshi Nallah where his bullet riddled body was later found.

“He works with CID and is posted in Srinagar. It was not clear whether he was going home or was returning to his office from home when he was abducted by gunmen,” said a native of Pulwama who did not want to be named.

In the evening, unidentifi­ed gunmen opened fire on Mohammad Amin Dar, a Peoples Democratic Party worker, at Gangbug, Tengpora. He was shifted to nearby Jhelum Valley College Hospital where he succumbed to injuries. Station House Officer(SHO) Shergari, Aftab Ahmad confirmed the death but refused to divulge more details.

On Saturday night, a special police officer was wounded after he was allegedly hit by a bullet in his leg in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Superinten­dent of Police, Budgam, Tejinder Singh said they were investigat­ing how he was wounded.

With the murder of Imtiyaz, the number of people killed in violence in Kashmir since last Sunday rose to 26. On Saturday, a CISF assistant sub inspector Rajendra Prasad was fatally shot inside a grid station by suspected militants at Wagoora Nowgam.
