PCS (pre) held in 29 districts, goes incident-free
PRAYAGRAJ: Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) conducted Provincial Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination2018 across 29 districts of the state on Sunday. Officials claimed that there were no reports of any untoward incident reported during the exam.
As many as 6,35,844 candidates were registered to appear in the exam at 1,381 centres that saw the commission conduct two preliminary exams for the first time, including that of PCS and Assistant Conservator of Forest/ Range Forest Officer Examination, simultaneously. The exam was conducted in two sessions: from 9.30am to 11.30am, and 2.30pm to 4.30pm. UPPSC Secretary Jagdish said that the exam witnessed 62.42 per cent of the total applicants appearing in the exam in the state. “Prayagraj saw the highest presence with 43,093 candidates out of 56,358, amounting to 76.46 per cent appearing in the exam held at 120 centres,” he said.
Sultanpur with 76.21 per cent was second in UP in terms of maximum presence, he added.
The aspirants are vying for 119 vacancies of Sub Divisional Magistrates, 94 deputy superintendents of police, 62 of principals of government intermediate college, 43 of district information officer, six block development officers, 58 supply officers and 21 sub registrars that are on offer.
Jagdish said elaborate security arrangements had been made to ensure that the examinations were conducted smoothly.
Candidates claimed that two questions of general studies paper-1 had errors in them. They claimed that a question on the year in which the union ministry of women and child development was set up as an independent ministry had options of 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1988 whereas the ministry’s own website lists 2006 as the year when it was set up as an independent ministry. Since 1985 it was under MHRD, they claimed.The exam proceedings were videographed and archived for future reference.
