Woman umpire to stand in a cricket tie for first time in Lucknow

LUCKNOW : It’s another first in Lucknow as for the first time in the last 30 years, a former woman cricketer Kazal Rathore would be standing as one of the umpires in the B division match of the Cricket Associatio­n Lucknow on Monday.

The match is to be played between Standard Club and Lucknow Huntz, at the Pt Raas Bihari Tewari Stadium. Confirming this, CAL’s umpiring committee chief Naeem Chisti said that Rathore finished top in the recently held exams for umpires in Lucknow.

“She (Kazal) was successful both in written and viva exams. She looks quite confident in dischargin­g her duties in right manner,”: said Chisti, adding, “She has already done umpiring in a few corporate trophy matches in the city.”

UBI TRIUMPH

UCO Bank of India defeated Canara Bank in Super Over to win the 2nd AIBOC Inter-Bank Cricket Tournament here on Sunday. Varun Marwari struck 59-ball 67 with the help of four fours and three sixes to help UCOB score 117 in 19.4 overs. In reply, Canara Bank too scored 117 in 20 overs. But in Super Over, UCOB prevailed over the rivals.

FINE BOWLING

Surendra Kumar and Anand Srivastava took three wickets each as K Sports Cricket Club defeated SDS Cricket Academy by nine wickets in a B division match of CAL here on Sunday.

SDSCA were bundled out for paltry 56 in 27.1 overs after being sent to bat first. In reply, KSCC romped home in 8.5 overs. Shiva Yadav hit 32 in 23 balls with the help of five fours and a six.

MAYANK EXCELS

Mayank Pandey with five points emerged victorious in the open category of the 12th Shivani Cup Sunday Open Chess Tournament here. Manab Bhattachar­jee with 4.5 points and Saurabh pal with four points finished second and third, respective­ly.

Athar rastogi (4 pts) in under-10, AK Tewari (3.5 pts) in under-14 and Ridhima Nigam (4 pts) in under-16 too stood top in respective categories.
