Legal experts discuss plight of prisoners
LUCKNOW A law firm ‘Into Legal World’ in association with the Institute of Legal Studies, Sri Ram Swaroop University, had organised a seminar on ‘Save prisoners from injustice’ recently.
A large number of law students, judges and other dignitaries attended the seminar organised at the Sri Ram Swaroop University campus to raise awareness regarding atrocities on prisoners. Addressing the gathering, state law minister Brajesh Pathak stated that the government was more than willing to help those undertrials whose cases were pending.
On the occasion, the Into Legal World decided to hand over a list of such prisoners to the minister who were languishing in prisons across the state despite completing their tenure.
Also present on the occasion, family and child welfare minister, state government, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, apprised the gathering about delay in trials of prisoners over petty offences and conditions of children born in prisons. She also released two books on legal issues titled ‘Legal Notes on Law of Evidence’ by advocate Prakarsh Pandey and ‘An Introspection into corporate criminal liability in India’ by Anwesha Ghosh.
Over 50 students presented their papers and around 150 submitted their research papers.Several judges of Allahabad high court and its Lucknow bench were also present. Speakers discussed the plight of such undertrials who have crossed their tenure of punishment or have been granted bail but due to poor financial condition they were unable to get out of prison.
