LUCKNOW : To promote the concept of recycling, Kapil Yadav, a city youth who has mastered the art of reusing waste, and 68-year-old Pratima Bhatiya, head (retired), anthropology department, Avadh Girls’ Degree College, have organised a grand exhibition on Park road here.

“The idea is to spread knowledge about recycling, especially of plastic, and prevent it from causing pollution. If this art is propagated well, it could help save the environment,” said Kapil.

Kapil said the theme of the exhibition was Diwali. “The exhibition will go on till Deepawali. I have prepared various items including decorative pieces and table ware from recycled. Some of items on display are earthen diyas, bandhanwaar prepared from MDF board, fibre and recycled flex banners, old CDs decorated with bangles, stones and tealight with wax, wall hangings of ‘Om’, ‘Swastika’ and ‘Kalash’ cutouts, decorated with stones, rangolis of different designs, collage work based on Lord Ganesha, decorative envel- ops and more,” he said.

Kapil, who has been into waste recycling for the past several years, said there was nothing like waste. “One just has to be creative with one’s thoughts. It’s all about being imaginative. Institutes should come forward to impart training to students and help in minimising pollution levels,” he said.

The exhibition also displayed recycled polythene articles, including baskets for collecting flowers, fruit baskets, covers for bottles, coasters, planters and other various other items.

The polythene artwork was prepared by Bhatiya. “Long days of practice helped me in making a polythene yarn,” she said, adding, “Creating articles out of used polythene gives me a sense of satisfaction. If this polythene was not used for this purpose, it would have polluted the environment.”
