VARANASI: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed administrative officials to ensure strict action against those who indulge in gundai (hooliganism) in the name of students at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

During the review meeting here on Sunday, CM discussed the recent incident of violence on the university premises when two groups of hostellers clashed and indulged in stone-pelting on the premises on September 25. The students also torched a few vehicles.

“Ensure strict action against those who indulge into gundai (hooliganism) in the name of students. BHU is an internationally acclaimed university. Ise badnam nahi hone diya jayega (We will not allow BHU’s name be sullied),” Yogi said, instructing police to play a proactive role.

He said that there should not be fake reporting of any development project, and third party verification will prove the ground reality of the project.

He instructed district urban development authority officials to ensure that every eligible candidate gets a house under the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana.

He reviewed all schemes, central command control, Varanasi convention centre, potable water and other schemes being implemented here.

“Ensure completion of projects, or else strict action will be taken,” Yogi said. He also asked for fast completion of Varuna corridor project.

Moti Jheel should be beautified. Take action, if anyone attempts to encroach it, he said.

Yogi asked the officials to devise a plan to tackle the perennial traffic problem in Varanasi.

A lot of development work has been carried out in Varanasi but there is need to ensure completion of projects on time.

CM’S MIDNIGHT DATE WITH VARANASI

The CM spent three hours to know the progress of various development projects, including Shri Kashi Vishwanath Corridor project, in Varanasi. Starting his inspection at midnight, he went to the ring road, and inspected the ongoing work of Shahi Nala (big drain). He also inspected the multi-modal terminal in Ramnagar, Varanasi.

He said that the terminal is about to be completed in next couple of days. In November, PM Narendra Modi will dedicate it to the nation.
