LUCKNOW : DGP OP Singh has directed the state police to intervene in a revenue (land) dispute only after informing and receiving appropriate instructions from the magistrate.

In a press release issued on Monday, Singh said that the analysis of crime shows that tension and enmity over property/ land dispute often leads to heinous crimes like murder.

There is need to pay attention to the issue to check crime.

Police officers need to identify revenue disputes in their respective areas and a report should be dispatched to the magistrate for instruction, he said.

Action should be taken only after receiving orders from the magistrate.

To check heinous crime, the police must prepare a list of cases of old land disputes. They will take preventive measures to check crime, he said.

The station house officers should forward applications received at the police station regarding property disputes to the magistrate, he said.

The policemen will interfere in cases of property disputes only on the direction of the court or magistrate.

The SHO will maintain a register of the disputes in respective areas.

The officer of gazette rank will make surprise checks at the police station to ensure that a register is being maintained and all details are entered, DGP said.
