LUCKNOW: Gas agency cashier Shyam Singh’s family is in a state of shock and living amid uncertainty after the horrific incident that unfolded on Monday.

Singh is survived by his wife and two daughters aged 18 and 14 years.

“The family members are in shock over the way Shyam was murdered. His elder daughter has fainted five times in the last 24 hours,” said Sudhir Singh, the younger brother of Shyam Singh, who sits among other relatives outside Shyam’s house in Vineet Khand.

Though the state government announced ₹5 lakh as compensation to Singh’s family, relatives complained that the amount of money is meagre considering their loss.

“My brother was a victim of depleting law and order situation in the state where people are getting murdered in broad daylight. The government should take responsibility and assure a job to one of the family members,” he said.

Shyam Singh’s relatives alleged that they were being given a cold shoulder by the district administration and police and expressed anger over this.

“We have lost a member of our family and the police are threatening us of consequences if we stage any protest,” added Sudhir.

Originally natives of Gosainganj,

Shyam Singh’s family started living in the Gomti Nagar house almost 10 years ago as he wanted to provide better education to his daughters.

Despite financial constraints, Shyam supported his elder daughter Guncha to join college after she completed school education.

“My brother snubbed some of our relatives who suggested that Guncha should get married. He was more worried about her education,” said Singh’s cousin, Shubham.

Shyam Singh also made it a point to attend all school functions with his daughters.

He recently attended the parent-teacher meeting at theschoolofhisyounger daughter, Shubhi, a student of Class 8.

“It would be very difficult for the family to afford education of the daughters. This is the biggest concern for all of us,” added Sudhir.
