KANPUR: Several students were injured during a violent clash at the Chandra Shekhar Azad (CSA) University of Agriculture Technology around 10.30 pm on Monday.

This is the seventh time during the past three years that the varsity witnessed violent clashes.

The CSA authorities claimed that only two students had received injuries during the late night clash and they were discharged from hospital after being given first aid.

But, according to the students, more than 10 students were injured but they avoided taking treatment at the university dispensary fearing interrogation and action against them. V-C professor Sushil Solomon said efforts were being made to identify the miscreants and to realize fine for the damages they caused to the university property.

The VC said a committee would be constituted to know the reason behind the clashes and stringent action would be taken against the guilty students.

Director administration professor Munish Gangwar said the clash took place when a senior student along with his guest came to the mess of the junior students for food. One of the junior students objected and suggested that he should go to the mess for the seniors.

This agitated the senior student and they had an altercation which turned into fighting.

A senior student pleading anonymity said the inmates of Karpoori Thaku and Bose Hostels where the students of first and second year lived came together and attacked the senior students with iron rods, hockeys and the bricks.

The violence could be controlled after an hour when adequate police force and the PAC rushed to the site.

Circle officer of Swaroop Nagar Devendra Misra said action would be initiated after a complaint was received.
