GORAKHPUR: : A sea 5,000 saffronclad girls surprised the audience at the DDU Gorakhpur University with amazing self-defence techniques, including high kicks and punches which they had learned during a self-defence training programme. Titled ‘Mission Sahas’, the 10-day course was conducted by the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarti Parishad (ABVP), across 50 schools and colleges.

The programme was conducted at the sport stadium on the university campus, close to the iconic 100-feet-high tricolor. The flag had been installed at the entrance gate of the university to instill a sense of patriotism and nationalism amongst students. The programme was also attended by DDU teachers who hailed the move saying learning the basics of self defence by school and college girls was the need of the hour.

Ranchi-based Jyoti Kumar, an international Wushu player, addressed the audience as special guest and gave the girls valuable self-defence tips to be used in times of crisis.

Fitness tips to live a healthy and stress-free life were also shared with the trainees.

“The ABVP workers held special training camps in 50 schools and colleges with the help of 40 trainers with expertise in martial arts including judo-karate between October 15 and October 25. We received a very good response from the girls who joined the training programme, while the college and school staff also supported the cause.
