Deadline set by Yogi ends, no leads yet in murder-loot case
LUCKNOW: With no conclusive leads on the assailants who shot dead a gas agency cashier, Shyam Singh (45), the Luckow police have gone beyond the 24-hour deadline given by chief minister Yogi Adityanath to crack the case by Wednesday morning.
The chief minister issued the deadline of arresting the assailants on Tuesday, day after Singh was shot dead from point blank range outside a bank and fled with ₹10 lakh Singh was carrying. Yogi had also announced an ex-gratia of ₹ 5 lakh to the family of the deceased.
The 12 police teams deployed to investigate the murder have just a short CCTV footage that shows the assailants, with their faces covered, shortly after the incident. “The man driving the mobike was wearing a helmet while the one sitting behind him had covered his face with a white handkerchief,” said superintendent of police (Crime) Dinesh Kumar Singh, who is heading one of the investigating teams. Police have released the screen grab of the video and announced a reward of ₹50,000 but are yet to receive any vital information identifying the accused.
“We are also focusing on the motorcycle that the assailants used in the crime. Video experts are working on the video to identify its registration number,
which could prove to be a vital lead,” the officer said.
Investigating teams have also identified over 25 suspects, who are being interrogated. Investigators continue to focus on people who knew about Singh’s daily routine, including co-workers and people Singh met daily.
“Teams have also been sent to nearby districts to identify criminals with a history of similar crimes,” the SP added.
The local police suspended a constable, who was deputed outside the bank where the incident occurred, on charges of dereliction of duty.
