CM releases book in memory of Dr MC Pant

LUCKNOW: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday released a book —‘Chhote Jeevan Ki Badi Kahani’ — in memory of Padma Shri Dr MC Pant, who started radiology services in Uttar Pradesh. Dr Pant passed away in 2015 due to cancer.

The CM said Dr Pant’s contributi­on in the field of cancer awareness and its treatment was commendabl­e and his contributi­ons would motivate the present generation. On the occasion, tourism minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi was also present. She also admired Dr Pant’s efforts to transform Dr RML Institute of Medical Sciences, Gomti Nagar (in capacity as its director) into a better institute.

As a tribute to Dr Pant, the CM handed over the first copy of the book to Dr Pant’s wife Nirmala. Naveen Joshi, former executive editor of Hindi daily ‘Hindustan’, has edited the book. Nirmala Pant said Dr Pant wrote several books to explain cancer to common citizens in simple language and organised several awareness camps in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhan­d. His wife also appealed to the CM to change the name of the newly establishe­d super speciality cancer institute in the name of Dr MC Pant.

His son Dr Siddhartha Pant along with other family members, director super speciality cancer institute, Dr DS Negi, director Lohia Hospital, and others were present on the occasion.

Dr Pant joined KGMU in 1985 and was sent to Japan in 1986 for specialisa­tion in CT scan. On his return, he was appointed in-charge of the first CT Scan unit in a government hospital in the state at KGMU. He was also the healthcare advisor to the Uttarakhan­d government.

Pant worked as the director of Dr RML Institute of Medical Sciences, Gomti Nagar from September 2010 to September 2013 and later became the founder vice-chancellor of HNB Medical Education University, Uttarakhan­d. Following his illness, Pant returned and joined KGMU as a professor in radiothera­py department.
