LUCKNOW : The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday announced a Diwali ‘bonus’ equivalent to 30 days’ wages for its employees and staff of aided educational institutions, local bodies and work charged employees.

It also announced payment of an increased DA to them with effect from July 1, 2018.

The bonus was released through a government order and an employee in a pay grade of Rs 4800 (having a salary of less than Rs 13500/-) will be eligible for the bonus. An employee having a salary of Rs 7000 per month will get Rs 6908 as bonus.

About 14 lakh employees are likely to benefit by the order that will cost about Rs 967.63 crore to the state exchequer. While 75 percent of the amount will be deposited in the provident fund the remaining will be paid in cash to the employees. The bonus will be given to the employees, who have completed one year in service.

It will also be paid to the daily wagers who have worked for at least 240 day in a year for the past three years.

The increased DA of nine per cent is expected to benefit about 15 lakh employees.

While the amount payable from July 1 to October 2018 will be transferred to the provident fund accounts of the employees, it will be paid to them with the salary of November on December 1.

This will cost about Rs 394.81 crore to the exchequer.
