‘Computer tech the way forward for enhancing education system’
LUCKNOW: Additional chief secretary, basic education, Prabhat Kumar on Friday said computer technology is certainly the way forward for enhancing the education system in the country.
He said this in a workshop – ‘A way forward in education through technology’ – held in association with the department of basic education (UP) and HCL Samuday, a flagship programme of HCL Foundation, at the Yojana Bhavan.
In view of national mandate to provide quality education to every child by ensuring universal access, equity, universal retention and achievement, this initiative is integrating child and adolescent education and joyful learning into the curriculum across the state school systems, he said.
Sarvendra Vikram Singh, UP director basic education, chaired the programme. HCL Samuday felt it was imperative that schools should have innovative practices through effective technology.
Speaking on the initiative, Navpreet Kaur, director, HCL Samuday said, “The idea behind this workshop is to strengthen content delivery mechanism by bridging it with technology to improve learning outcomes and retention level of students.”
“As a next step, we are looking at introducing practices to improve the scenario of learning achievement and retention ability in government primary schools. With the support of the government along with other organisations working in this area, we are hopeful to implement this successfully and bring a sea change in the basic education scenario of Uttar Pradesh,” said Kaur. “I would also like to emphasise on the role of teachers for successful implementation of the initiative. The workshop is being proposed so that teachers and other relevant stakeholders can gather and share their experiences; as well as present concepts & ideas so that it can be taken forward in the schools where improving the learning environment is a major concern,” she added. “It is heartening to see corporates like HCL coming forward to take up this mandate of upskilling teachers as well as providing children with an interesting mode of learning,” said Alok Varma, additional director, HCL Foundation.
Close to 100 teachers, principals, BSAs from select districts participated in the workshop to share and discuss benefits of using ICT/computer technology
Besides, 10 best performing teachers from Samuday blocks and pradhan from Hathoda gram panchayat of Kachhauna block were felicitated by the education department at the event.
