AI based safety cover for revolvers developed

KANPUR The Field Gun Factory in association with two scientists has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) based safety cover for small firearms like pistols and revolvers that practically makes it impossible for anybody else apart from the owner to access it.

The smart cover developed by two brothers Gaurav Pilania and Saurabh Pilania, who are directors of Hans Energy System Private limited, under the guidance of Field Gun Factory is enabled with biometric access control and is aptly named ‘Kavatch’, said general manager of the factory Shailendra Nath.

The holster is apparently first-of-its-kind safety cover in the world, Nath said and added that the cover would have finger prints of the owner and unless it matches the latch of the cover would not open thus preventing unauthorized use of the weapon.

“So if the revolver is stolen or lost, no person would be able to access it without fingerprint matching,” he said.

He said at present only two safety systems were in practice. First, the spring locking system and the other was code-based safety system.

This hi-tech feature would be an added advantage, he added. He said the cover was developed using 3-D technology and it could store five to six finger print impression.

“The revolver could be put under constant watch through mobile application,” he added.
