LUCKNOW: An 18-year-old Class 12 student from UP’s Jalaun district has been charged with calling up the US investigation agency Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) several times and issuing threat to blow up the Miami airport in the USA.

He allegedly made the threat calls after not getting desired help from the FBI in a matter in which he was allegedly duped in a bitcoin (a popular crypto currency) deal worth $ 1000 (around ₹70,000 ) by a US based man, said police officials here.

The boy was tracked and multiple charges slapped on him for issuing threat and impersonation. Sections of IT Act were also imposed for making over 50 calls to the FBI and five calls to Miami airport authorities in the past one month.

UP director general of police (DGP) OP Singh said the state police were not disclosing the boy’s identity as he was just 18 years and three months old and he was not arrested considering his tender age. But an FIR had been lodged under proper sections to probe the matter further, he added.

The DGP said investigations so far revealed that the boy, who is a sharp student, made at least 50 calls to the FBI authorities after finding their numbers from internet between October 2 and 31. The boy had achieved 10 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in Class 10 the standard board examination of CBSE.

He said the boy also made five calls to the Miami airport authorities threatening to blow up the airport by barging into its premises equipped with AK 47 assault rifle, grenade and suicide belt. He said the caller used the internet to make these calls.

He said the UP Anti Terror Squad swung into action after the FBI approached the National Investigation Agency officials, who in turn approached the UP police to track the caller. He said the boy used a fake identity proof and e-mail ID created with forged identity to approach the FBI.

The boy revealed during questioning that he had taken $1000 from his father, who ran an NGO, to invest in bitcoin trade and earned huge profit in the past five months. He, however, lost all his bitcoin after an imposter approached him through online chatting and duped him by assuring major benefits, Singh said.

Singh said it was high time that parents kept a watch on their children’s online activities.
